Perfection
As an Art Director/Designer by trade I struggle with this idea of perfection in everything I do. Sometimes it can be a good thing pushing me to do the best work I possibly can, but other times it keeps me from doing work that probably should be done because I won't be able to put the time in to get it perfect.
I came across something today from Seth Godin that I liked in relation to the idea of perfection and realizing what the driver is. "You can’t name someone you befriended because his eyeglass frames were just the right shape, or the last book you loved because the cover was perfectly typeset. For surface shine, 80% might be more than enough. After that, the tweaking is for us, not those we seek to serve."
As I think specifically about the industry I'm in, this 80% rule rings true and it probably rings true in more industries than we think.
