He came for all

As we look forward to Christmas coming and think about the birth of Christ I was struck by the different types of people that the birth of Jesus was revealed to and worshipped by.

He was revealed to and worshipped by an unborn baby (John), a pregnant mother (Elizabeth), a virgin (Mary), a priest (Zechariah), shepherds, an old man (Simeon), an old woman (Ana), foreign wise men and to us.

What's interesting is how different all of these people are. From the unborn to the old, from the lowly to high and from those of Israel to those outside of Israel. Why does scripture choose to highlight so many different people that Christ as a baby was revealed to? I believe it is to show that Christ being revealed has nothing to do with status or what we have and it has everything to do with His mercy.

This is a good reminder for me as I so often look at the outward appearance of people. God does not choose to reveal himself based on anything that is outward.
